Equal opportunities for men and women: a lot done, a lot still to do
Although gender equality is enshrined in the Federal Constitution, it has still not been achieved. Yet gender equality creates economic, societal and individual benefits. Equal opportunities must not be imposed top-down. They need to be implemented by all and treated as a task relevant to all areas of political life.
The Federal Council commissioned NRP 60 in 2007. Twenty-one projects studied gender equality between 2010 and 2013 with a total budget of CHF 8 million. The national research programme has been completed in 2014.
The synthesis report summarises the results and makes suggestions as to how gender equality, equal opportunities and freedom of choice for men and women could be enhanced.
On the occasion of four dialogue events, representatives of science, politicy and practice have discussed results and pulses of NRP 60 and challenges of equality politicy.
